Information Architecture

Create the easiest and most pleasant experience for your users

My Information Architecture Service Will Help ‘Plan’ Your Website

Information architecture (abbreviated ‘IA’) is about ‘structuring’ and ‘arranging’ information on your website (or app) to make it easier to understand/navigate and create a better experience for your users.

‘User experience’ is key to high SEO rankings because the average user has little patience, is in a rush and has a ‘short attention’ span.

And by providing a ‘better’ user experience, your brand can combat information overload, deliver the right content at the right time and solve more problems (all critical to driving more conversions).

My Information architecture service ‘solves the problem’ of planning your website. Planning your website can be tough, time consuming and one big headache if you don’t have the right experience. I have over 12 years’ experience in IA and can help you plan your website systematically, clearly and logically.

Takeaway: It’s your job (as a website owner) to provide ‘instant gratification’ to your target market, by giving them the ‘content when they want it’, to drive more conversions and maximise return on investment.

Information Architecture is About Increasing ‘Customer Satisfaction’

IA is more than pumping out a sitemap and hoping that will solve all your ‘IA’ problems!

IA, from a brand revenue viewpoint, is about increasing customer satisfaction. And for you as a brand (with your website) the only way to do that is to get the user to the destination faster.

By doing this you increase customer satisfaction, conversions and return on investment. And by ‘pleasing’ your customers, not only will your brand increase return on investment but maximise return on investment with ‘happy’ repeat buyers.

Takeaway: The benefits of my Information architecture service to your brand are huge. They include; better ‘planning’ your content to suit needs/wants of your target audience, better ‘understanding’ your target audience needs/wants and solving these problems, and better ‘outlining’ of customer journeys to successfully understand your target audience needs/wants.

Additional Benefits: Better internal ‘expectations’ set, a more ‘comprehensive’ brief without gaps and an improved ‘overall’ plan for your project.

The Information Architecture Process

Great IA is about research, planning and execution. For my IA ‘planning’ phase, the process begins with keyword, market and competitor research.

But beyond this research, there are 4 steps to my IA process.

1. What are your brand goals?

I will ask you two questions: Why do you want to do IA? What do you want to achieve with IA? Usually, your brand goals will fall into 3 categories: You want to make more money, reduce costs or help people make better decisions. It is critical to be clear on your IA brand goal.

2. What are your user (target audience) goals?

Interviews, personas and scenarios may need to be created to answer two questions: What are your users going to do on your website? What are you users goals? Constraints such as ‘technology’ need to be considered during this step.

3. Analyse your competitors

It’s critical (as a brand) that you know all your competition. Looking at your competitors in your market, we need to consider: Is there IA good and what makes it good or bad? Is there website easy to navigate? Where is information displayed on their website? Which information is common across their website?

4. Define content

If your brand already has a website with content, then a ‘content audit’ will be needed to determine what content stays, and what goes. If you are a new brand, and your website has no content, then we will start from scratch.

Great IA is fundamental to any great website and so all 4 steps are critical to the success of the IA process.
